Aluminum 6061-T6 Sheet, 0.032" Thick, 12" Width, 12" Length Feature

  • Superior corrosion resistance, even in elevated temperatures
  • Light weight; often used in structural applications
  • Easier to machine than 5XXX alloys
  • Often selected for welding and brazing applications
  • Min 42 ksi tensile strength
Aluminum 6061 is generally selected where welding or brazing is required, or for its high corrosion resistance in all tempers. The principle 6000-series aluminium plate alloys (6061 and 6061-T651) are now superseding low-carbon steels in structural applications where the benefits of lightness, specific stiffness, corrosion resistance and ease of fabrication can be exploited. Such applications include machined components, structural members, and cargo containers.

Formability is excellent in O temper and good in the T4 temper, while machining is more difficult when compared to the other machining alloys. 6000-series aluminum plate alloys in T651 condition are easier to machine than 5000-series alloys. Corrosion resistance and appearance after anodizing are superior to all other screw machine alloys while strength is the lowest. Unlike some 5000-series alloys, 6000-series aluminium plate alloys do not suffer degradation in corrosion resistance after exposure to elevated temperatures.
